Drawing lines

Top  Previous  Next

SectionMaker provides 3 types of lines, a single segment line, an open polyline and a closed polyline. Each of these line types can be used to add layer information in the 2D section such as draw the free ground surface, soil layers etc. Drawing lines is done using the mouse pointer, left click and right click.

Drawing a single line

From the Draw objects menu select the Draw single line command. Alternatively you may click on the add_single_line button on the Draw tools toolbar. The pointer cursor inside the page area is now a crosshair and the software waits for the starting point of the line. Left click with your mouse anywhere you wish your line to start. Move the mouse over the position where the line will end. As you move the mouse a dotted line appears indicating the possible line you are about to create. Left click or right click to define the end point of the line. The line will now be created and selected (blue squares will appear at both ends). The mouse pointer will remain a crosshair just in case you need to define another single line.

SectionMaker implements a snapping feature in order to provide visual marks when the pointer moves close to characteristic points like the end points of a line. The snap feature works only when defining or editing draw objects and only in the case where this feature is enabled. To enable / disable this feature make sure that the Enable snap to objects button on the Draw tools toolbar is down or up respectively (

Drawing an opened polyline

To draw an opened polyline first select the Draw open polyline command from the Draw objects menu. Alternatively you may click on the add_open_polyline button on the Draw tools toolbar. The pointer cursor inside the page area is now a crosshair and the software waits for the starting point of the polyline. Left click with your mouse anywhere you wish your polyline to start. Move the mouse over the position where the second point will be placed and click the left mouse button. Repeat the last step as many times it is necessary to complete your polyline. Press the right mouse button to stop defining points for your polyline.

Drawing a closed polyline

A closed polyline can be defined exactly as the open polyline. When the right button of the mouse is pressed the software will close the polyline region by connecting the last defined point with the first defined point.
